Hello everyone,
I am running to be your Social Running Captain as RAX has been such a major part of my first year, and I would love the opportunity to give back to this community. Especially, through attending weekly social runs, I have made some of my closest friends, met many brilliant people and formed some of my fondest memories of my first year. I have also become more confident both as a runner and a person, and would love the opportunity to encourage and watch others do the same.
A social running captain, I would want to:
- Introduce new and varied routes in Regents Park
- Encourage at least monthly Sunday Long Runs (potentially with two paces)
- Propose social stretching, warm-up, and warm-down sessions, especially for those doing Couch 2 5k
- Parkrun tourism at least twice a term (Highbury, Hampstead, Finsbury, Battersea, Burgess...)
#votebentham, it's what Jeremy would've wanted
Thank you

Hey fellow RAX members, my name is Angus and I’d love to be your Social Running Captain for next academic year!
As a fresher in September, joining RAX has given me one of the most amazing experiences this year. I got my running on track, and met loads of amazing people through great conversations. While there were other highlights, the social runs stood out and offered me the perfect opportunity to chill and socialise with others. That’s why I’m nominating myself to lead social running and run for Social Running Captain to keep social running great in RAX!
I’m suitable for the role because I’m friendly, approachable, and very encouraging. I’m also responsible, which is key given the workload, and I’m confident in my ability to handle it. I aim to make social running as inclusive and diverse as possible—appealing to both beginners and advanced runners. To keep RAX social running great, I pledge to do the following if elected:
- I will personally tail all the social runs, esp for slower 5km, and walk with those who are struggling.
- I will personally lead the Sunday long runs as much as possible if no one else wants to, and make sure they continue throughout the academic year.
- I will keep social runs organised through efficient and sensible allocation of run leaders.
- Most importantly, I will create a running environment where everyone feels welcome and free of judgement!
Thank you for participating in this by-election!
Five years ago, I decided to give running a go. Looking back, I can say, without a doubt, that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Before then, I didn’t consider myself sporty at all. Running did more than just enhance my physical fitness, it transformed my mindset. I truly believe that the body achieves what the mind believes. I want to help others experience this shift. I want them to know that it doesn’t have to be scary, all you have to do is give yourself a chance and be willing to start.
To me, running isn't about speed or stats, it’s simply about showing up and most importantly HAVING FUN! Running has brought me so much joy, and I want to share that with anyone and everyone—regardless of pace or experience. This year, RAX social runs gave me a strong sense of community, support, and connection. As captain, I want to uphold and grow that spirit: making runs welcoming, inclusive, and fun. Whether you’re chasing a PB or just showing up, there’s a place for you.
I ran my first marathon last month—a goal that once felt impossible—and I’ve already signed up for the next! Movement is powerful, and I want to encourage people to move their bodies not out of obligation, but out of joy. I wish to show them that the journey is entirely worth it! There is no right pace, just the joy of moving forward :)
I’m standing because I care deeply about community, inclusivity, and helping others fall in love with running the way I did.
