James Adams

I'm running for academic vice president having been a student rep for the last two academic years - with experience of the interactions between the medical school and its students, and strong working relationships with senior figures at UCLMS.

I'm running because that experience has shown me the critical importance of the academic vice president in the connection between students and the medical school, when that connection is working well and when it is dysfunctional. I want to be the advocate for years 4-6 in both cases, building on success and addressing failures.

I'm running because I care deeply about us, the medical students, and about our academic education. Its provision affects all aspects of our time at UCLMS. If there are problems, this has a range of effects on us and our general well-being. Conversely, something that excites me about doing this is that it offers me the opportunity to make real positive difference in our experience of these 3 years.

I'm running as a graduate, with a perspective on different ways of running degree courses. I'm running as someone with real experience of paid employment in NHS hospitals, with a sense of the varied challenges clinical students will face on the wards and in the community. I'm running with a view to addressing specific upcoming issues with our teaching in clinical years, like the curriculum review and ensuring our voices are heard in that process.

I hope that you feel able to give me your vote.
