Liyana Ahmed

Hiya! I’m Liyana, and I’m standing to be your next President of MT Soc.

Since joining earlier this year, I’ve had a blast being part of both cast and prod teams. While I think the society already runs brilliantly, I’d love to refine and prioritise three key areas:

  1. Inclusivity
  2. Communication
  3. Feasibility

I’m committed to making the non-auditioned Spotlight programme a permanent part of MT Soc. It was my first introduction to being a part of a larger show, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for new faces to really shine. I also wish to collaborate more with ArtsUCL societies to create more diverse, on-stage productions that reflect our community’s full range of talent.

Clear, consistent communication will be a priority. I hope to finally introduce a weekly newsletter to celebrate achievements, share opportunities, and keep members in the loop. Committee meetings will place an emphasis on the fact that we are a team, ensuring that everyone feels valued, supported and on the same page. I believe this will help foster a closer sense of community and awareness to all society members.

Finally, I believe in sustainable ambition. I want members to continue to dream big, while maintaining realistic expectations. And although I can’t change the room booking system, I promise to be on top of securing rehearsal spaces and venues.

With my experience in MT Soc, and my external experience in managing people, I hope to be a President you can trust and feel confident in.
