Poppy Pendergast

Hi! I’m Poppy and I’m really passionate about wellbeing, especially for med students because I know how tough it can be, so I’d love to be your Welfare Officer next year!

Here’s some of my ideas, but equally, I would be completely open to listening to other suggestions:

  • Welfare socials - laidback events doing something fun, and getting to know new people at the same time. There will be food!!
  • Welfare drop-ins - regular sessions to bring any concerns, where I would do my absolute best to either solve the problem myself, help signpost you to the right place, or just be a listening ear.
  • Collaborations with different societies - I would be really keen to organise events with other societies, such as the LGBTQ+ Medics Network or Yoga Society, so everyone feels like they are part of a bigger community.
  • Anonymous concerns submissions - I know how vulnerable it can feel to raise issues so I would provide a way to raise concerns that might feel more comfortable.
  • Mentorship scheme to give advice on how to thrive in medical school.
  • Collaborate with the treasurer to make events and conferences more affordable and set up some funds to make sure they are accessible for all.

I think I’m an approachable person and a good listener, so I hope people would feel comfortable talking to me. I know what it’s like to struggle with mental health and I have a lot of empathy for those finding things tough, and I just hope I can help people feel less alone.

Thank you for your consideration :)
