Nellie Szeplaki

Hi, I’m Nellie and I’m running to be your next Social Officer!  Here’s why you should vote for me:

  1. Active club member

On top of walk-leading, I've been an active part of the sub-committee, helping to launch our brand new magazine ‘The Navigator’. Working closely with committee members on this project has given me a great insight into what their roles are like and has made me more enthusiastic about joining the team!

  2. Passionate about socials

I have taken part in a huge variety of socials this year, from classic pub socials to scavenger hunts around London, so I've experienced firsthand how valuable they are in getting to know members outside of our weekend hikes. I've seen what works best and am really excited to bring more new socials to the club such as Nintendo gaming nights and (taking inspiration from our residentials) even baking socials! I would also love to organise more collaborations to bring new activies and new faces to our events.

  3.  Putting you first!

Through helping to put together 'The Navigator',  I've learnt how creative our members are and just how many ideas they have! As your social officer, my focus will be on listening to what you have to say about future socials and bringing your ideas to life. On top of this, I will maintain a balance of chill, non-alcohol focused socials and classic pub socials throughout term to make sure there is something for everyone.

Thank you for voting, I'll see you next year! :)

Chenghao He

Hi everyone! I'm Chenghao, and I'm running to become one of the Social Secretaries of the Hiking Club.

As a fairly new member of the club, some of you might know me from Term 2 weekend hikes—or from the unforgettable Mourne Mountains residential. Despite the limited time, I have had some of my best memories hiking alongside the amazing hikers. Hence, I do wish to contribute further and create even better moments for others.

I believe the core of the club is not only the trails and mountains we conquer, but also the people we share them with. As someone who joined later on, I understand how it can feel to be new. Therefore, I’m passionate about making the club even more welcoming for everyone with fresh social events, such as:

  • Themed Hikes in Collaboration with Other Societies
Experience historical trails with the History Society, biodiversity hikes with BioSoc, or even more creative hikes tracing the path of the Greats!

  • Orienteering Adventures
Ditch the planned routes: navigate with clues and find hidden landmarks for a more adventurous experience.

  • Cultural Potlucks
Share your favorite food and stories during hiking lunches or picnics, learning the people and culture around you!

Finally, I’m committed to listening. I want to hear from all of you. We are all futures of the club, what you think matters for making the socials more enjoyable and the hikes more fun! Thanks for reading, and I hope to have your support!

Juyoung Lee

Since joining hiking club, I've been able to commit to a hobby all whilst meeting and making new friends so I'd like to give back to the club by becoming the socials officer. I've really enjoyed some of the new concepts this year's committee's brought forward such as the Murder Mystery socials(my personal highlight of my time with this year's Hiking Club)! If elected, I want to continue offering a diverse range of socials, not just the usual pub socials that many clubs offer as well, but also more creative and engaging ones like the Murder Mystery socials and beyond! I believe I am suited for this role as I have the organisation and time-management skills required for it having had experience sorting out socials, being the one who's always arranging plans in my social groups.  I bring enthusiastic energy to the table and most importantly- a social calendar you'll be very excited about!
