Yvette Cheng

Hi, I’m Yvette Cheng, a second-year Civil Engineering student passionate about humanitarian causes, inclusive education, and people-focused problem solving. I’m applying to be your Welfare Officer because I care deeply about student wellbeing, community, and making sure every voice in EWB feels heard and supported.

I’ve worked as a maths and physics tutor for 3 years, supporting students of all ages and backgrounds in both Mandarin and English. I’ve seen how much confidence and belonging matter—especially in STEM spaces—and I want to bring that perspective to EWB. I love listening, teaching, and creating spaces where people feel safe to ask for help and share ideas.

My experience as a private chef and small business owner has taught me organisation, empathy, and how to support a team under pressure. Welfare is about more than mental health—it’s about emotional safety, inclusion, communication, and human connection. I want to help build a culture where members look out for each other, especially during busy periods or high-stress projects.

If elected, I’ll focus on accessible check-ins, clear communication, and events that prioritise wellbeing alongside impact. I’ll advocate for balance, mental health, and inclusivity throughout the year—ensuring that our amazing work is supported by an equally strong community.

Let’s make EWB a space where people don’t just grow—they feel good while doing it.
