I believe I am good for this role as I have had similar experience before, such as being subject and boarding prefects during Sixth Form and being a volunteer tutor. From my previous roles, I developed skills such as being organised and flexible. My active listening skills, empathy and patience were also improved, as I often talked to and gathered opinions from my fellow students and boarders, which helped them feel at ease and supported during their time studying and living in school.
I would like to bring these values to my role as first year representative; my goal is to tailor a fun, helpful and comfortable first year university experience to freshers, especially when this is most of our first time studying and living away from home, and I think being in societies is a big part of uni experience. I will achieve this by regularly gathering opinions from first years and help make suggestions based on them, focusing on feedback for natsci society. I also want to promote society events for first years specifically, for example internship workshops, as many first year students are unaware of these career opportunities. Other more social events could be activities in London, so that we can explore London more and get to know each other better.
I am standing to be a first year rep because I would love to interact more with the Natural Sciences community at UCL and help to increase engagement with the society across the university. I believe that my enthusiasm for Natural Sciences and desire to foster a supportive community makes me a good candidate for this role. Through organising events and encouraging connections between students, I would love to contribute even a small part towards the growth of this vibrant society!
