Daisy John

Hello, I’m Daisy!

I would love to become more involved in this society as I am fascinated about the intersection between the historic legal system and modernisation through new and exciting technology! As a new Law student, I understand the potentially overwhelming nature of learning more about the legal sphere and will strive to make this as accessible as possible, as everyone should be able to learn about such an important feature of our lives and the future.

From a Welfare Officer you want someone to make you feel welcome, encourage involvement, and listen to your concerns. Firstly, being a first-year student, I understand the importance of feeling welcome in being able to have fun and contribute to societies and university life and will aim to promote this for everyone. Secondly, being Head Girl with a responsibility of integrating pupils back into the school following the lockdowns, I understand the significance of promotion of participation, specifically through social events. Here, I set up movie nights and scavenger hunts to encourage comfort following the pandemic and I would place a focus on this. Thirdly, tutoring students as well as taking part in Mental Health projects has allowed me to develop the ability to articulate concerns and lead to improvements, which is crucial in the development of any society.

Not only am I excited about this opportunity to learn more and get to know new people, but I am also suited to this role and would love to have this role!

Reenie Kong

Hi, my name is Reenie, and I am a first-year law student. I joined Legal Tech because I wanted to pay cognizance to the technologies currently revolutionizing the legal profession. I'm running for Welfare Officer because I want to create an informed and safe community for shared understanding about automated legal services.

I have experience as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer during my senior year in my previous school, where good communication and interpersonal skills were key to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Through this experience, I led workshops on inclusivity, discussions on delicate topics and examined injustices in my community. As a first-year and an international student, I can address members' concerns and bring forward ideas from various perspectives.

As Welfare Officer I aim to:

- help increase understanding and identify how members can engage with Legal Tech to prepare for sector-specific technology such as advanced chatbots and smart legal contracts

- run a series of discussion based events which encourage open conversation concerning welfare, understanding and suggestions

- encourage discussions of the challenges and potential solutions facing Legal Tech such as cost, client confidentiality and data protection

It would be an honor to be UCL Legal Tech's next welfare officer.
