Maria Sharees

Hi, my name is Maria and I am running for the position of External Relations Officer at the UCL In Aid of UNICEF Society.

As an interim committee member, I was able to participate in multiple fundraising events as well as learn more about prospective sponsors and speakers. Additionally, as the Marketing Director of the 180DC society last year, I had the opportunity to liaise with several professionals, recruit speakers and connect with members of the society. These experiences have helped me grow my network and I am confident that I will be able to bring these skills to the position if I am elected.

My objectives include:

  • Hosting panel discussions with UCL Alumni to learn more about their career paths that led them to work with NGOs and the charity sector.
  • Building partnerships with third-sector organizations to create larger impact and reach a wider audience.
  • Creating a newsletter for our members that keeps them updated on our past and upcoming events as well as other opportunities to get involved with our society.

Thank you. Please contact me at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss my ideas further.

Kashvi Roohi Singh

As a new student, my brief experience volunteering with the in aid of UNICEF society has been an extremely rewarding one and I look forward to further my involvement. It would be great to be able to bring to use the skills I have gained from my experience in volunteering to strengthen the efforts of the society in raising funds for UNICEF and their efforts.

I have volunteered for Barnardo’s children’s charity for more than 2 years which has allowed me to develop the critical communication and campaigning skills that will be required for this role. As senior prefect and secretary of my school’s charity committee, I have organised several fundraising events and drives for different charities. This has required liaising between various stakeholders to successfully execute events.

My recent role as Sales and Marketing intern for Piqi, which is a new online shopping platform for sustainable fashion, has involved reaching out to potential users, conducting interviews for market research, and developing and implementing a successful marketing strategy. This has helped develop my communication and team working skills, that will be key to the role of external relations officer.

I have deep respect for the amazing effort that is being made by the society to raise funds to support UNICEF’s life-saving work, and hope that I will be able to contribute in the growth of this amazing journey.

Anya Agarwal

Hi! I would love to be the external relations officer for the 'In Aid of UNICEF' society.

I think events with external people/ groups are important as they can help people network and gain a broader understanding of what work in the charity sector entails. I plan to create polls for members to gain a better understanding of what sorts of events you would be interested in. Be it educational/careers talks, question-answer sessions or even mixers with alumni and other students interested in volunteering, I would be thrilled to facilitate events that are of interest to all of us. I would also be enthusiastic to provide members with a newsletter more often, including not only a description of past and upcoming events but also helpful resources, professionals you can contact and engaging news articles/ research.

Since I was charity and community services captain at my sixth form I believe I would be able to use my experience to help organise and promote large-scale events for you to attend. I am really passionate about helping others, and growing up in India for most of my life I have had the opportunity to help underprivileged children firsthand. These experiences have inspired me to understand how the charity sector works at a larger scale and understand what I can do to inspire others. I think it is really helpful to learn from your own and others experiences and I hope to help with that.

Thank you!! :)
