Haoyu Wang

Hi! I am Haoyu, running for president of the Gulf Society.

Having lived alongside the Arab culture for most of my life, I have grown great admiration and passion for Arab customs and traditions, hence my motivation to run for president. Furthermore, after setting up two successful startups, organised events such as a Tedx, and maintained various leadership positions in societies at high school, I believe that I am well-equipped to thrive in this role.

In the upcoming year, I strive for:

  • Cooperation: I will increase our alliances with other societies both inside and outside of UCL similar to the Gulf society, organising events where our members can meet other great cultures as well as exporting our outstanding heritage
  • Focus: I will devote a quarter of our budget to promote the Arab culture. For instance, I will organise the UCL equivalent of the Janadriya Festival, as well as trips to the Middle East both for our members and other enthusiasts.
  • Expansion: I will run a campaign to expand the society's membership by offering events of academic and professional nature, such as inviting speakers and organising workshops, projecting the society as a vital career springboard to everyone who is interested in working in the gulf.

I promise that, with an inclusive and focussed approach, I will bring positive impact in the society and expand the society by maintaining its focus on traditions but also connecting our members with a plethora of job opportunities in the Arab world.
