Gliding Club: Treasurer

Hi, my name is Jonathan, a second-year Physics student, and I am running to be the Treasurer of the Gliding Club.

I have just joined the Gliding Club this year and have had a fantastic experience on my first few flights. I believe UCL Gliding club provides great opportunities for everyone to try out this amazing sport and I hope to give back to the club whilst continuing to develop my interest in the sport through this role. 

During secondary school, I had the experience of running a charitable business where I deepened core skills such as communication and negotiation skills when communicating with stakeholders. I hope to apply my skills to serve the members of the Gliding Club and be successful in this role. 

If elected, I will:
1. Be responsible and organised, ensuring that the club is functioning smoothly
2. Effectively manage the funds of the club and make financial processes transparent
3. Provide advice on financial decisions for the club

I am an experienced committee member running for the role of treasurer because I’d like to dedicate more of my time to the Club and gliding itself.

As the previous president of the In Aid of UNICEF Society, I have acquired practical knowledge of how one should effectively plan and manage society finances. Due to the charitable nature of the society, we had to be very clear and accountable with our funds, which gave me advanced experience. In addition, the role required me to closely familiarise myself with what every committee member does through the Union’s training, so if elected, I’ll be able to hit the ground running.

As your treasurer, I’ll work towards stretching our budget and ensuring that enough funds are allocated for essential matters, like the maintenance of our planes. I’ll also make sure to hear you out on any new ideas and to settle any concerns with the SU effectively; I’ve done it many times. I will also prioritise funding more social events and promote initiatives that help make gliding accessible for everyone. It would be my utmost pleasure to serve on the committee and if you have any questions, hit me up!

Hi, my name is Shengchang, second-year PPE student from China. I've been a member of the glider club since last year and worked as interim treasurer since this summer. There is a load of good memories with the club. I'm happy to nominate myself for the role and I will do my best to assist the president whenever needed.
