Jacob Merchant

Hi everyone, I'm Jacob! Some people call me Jac. Other people call me Jac.

I'm a second year Arts and Sciences (BASc) student, and have been the Drama Committee's interim secretary since the start of this year. In my role I have done my meeting-note-taking and newsletter-sending duties with enthusiasm, as well as being very active during the Freshers' Week events to both advertise the society and help the Year Ones feel welcome. It has been a great pleasure to have provisionally been on this wonderful committee and to be a friendly face to people new to UCL and Drama Society alike. I would very much like to keep on serving as your secretary!

Drama Society has been my home at UCL literally since I joined, as I was thrown into the fray as the character Spencer in the 2022 Term 1 Blooms Show 'King Charles III'. Since then I have also appeared in the New Writing Festival as Loki in 'The Binding of Loki', and I will soon be performing Godunov in 'As Terrible As God'.

As secretary, it is important to be able to write well. Allow me to demonstrate. I can spell 'onomatopoeia' without a spell-checker, and I know what an Oxford comma is. 'Trough' rhymes with 'cough' but not with 'through', 'though', 'bough', or 'lough'. Need any more be said about my lexical prowess?
