Emma Silvestri

I love classics and any activities which help people to engage with it more. I was the editor of my school’s Classics newspaper ‘Kleos’ in which pupils of all ages contributed articles and pieces of art celebrating their favourite parts of Classics. I also love organisational tasks such as setting up events and booking spaces, speakers etc. In the past few years, I have produced detailed timelines for students to be aware of when and what they need to work on. Moreover, I volunteered to produce a blog for the Maritime Archaeology Trust where I planned the layout and images and also wrote the article itself to produce an engaging and informative blog which now features on their website. Additionally, I take great joy in art and would love to help out in producing any graphics or posters needed to promote societal events. I am currently an Academic Representative for both the Classics and Ancient World degrees and so will have a lot of practice in liaising with the Greek and Latin department, thereby helping me to aid the Classics society further. As an Outreach Officer, I would like to set up talks which appeal to a wide-ranging audience, specifically ones which create links to Classics one may not previously have thought about. I have personally really enjoyed hearing Ellen Greene and Il-Kweon Sir speak about the analysis and reconstructive process of Sappho’s fragments and would love exploring them as possible visiting lecturers. I have experience in a leadership role as well as organising and setting up events. I
