Diya Rautela

As a postgraduate Biosciences student passionate about empowering women in STEM, I aim to build an inclusive and engaging community through meaningful events. Having organised academic workshops and delivered talks on career growth and networking, I’ve seen how well-planned initiatives can inspire and connect individuals. Transitioning to London as an international student, I understand the value of supportive spaces that help one adapt and thrive. As Events Officer, I’d ensure every event is welcoming, inclusive, and purposeful, from professional development sessions and research networking mixers to informal socials that encourage genuine collaboration and mentorship. My experience engaging with researchers from institutions like Stanford and the Francis Crick Institute, and organising scientific workshops, has strengthened my skills in coordination, communication, and outreach. Additionally, working as a consultant at CCN and LHI, London, has shown me the importance of interdisciplinary learning. I’d love to design events that help women in STEM explore intersections with business, consulting, and leadership beyond the lab. With my background in biotechnology, bioinformatics, and communication, I hope to create spaces that celebrate achievement, foster dialogue, and ensure every woman in STEM at UCL feels supported, seen, and inspired to lead.

Tanisha Bajaj

Hi I'm Tanisha, and I truly believe a great event can really bring people together and foster a sense of friendship and community. And isn't that what girlhood is all about?

I'm a first year Chemical Engineering student but I know what it takes to take a concept and turn it into a well run, high energy event which is worth your time. Whether it was running interactive electrolysis workshops for museums or coordinating sustainability challenges, I’ve always loved transforming ideas into experiences that make people connect, collaborate, and leave inspired.

If elected, I will ensure EVERYONE'S suggestions are accounted for and help organise fun quiz nights, more social events and many insightful and fun talks and events.

PS. (Another thing that I think brings ppl together is food, especially sweet treats. If you vote of me, there might be some free cupcakes in it for you👀)

Diya Doda

Hi, I’m Diya and I’m a first-year Physics student! Women in STEM is a cause I’m particularly passionate about, having spent the past two years as president of my school’s Women in STEM club.

As president, I initiated and organised a range of events, including a Women in STEM Tech Talk series featuring biophysicists from CERN and AI experts from WIPO. This experience helped build my outreach skills and showed me how powerful collaboration across different STEM fields can be. We also ran workshops and science fairs for younger students to fuel their love for science outside the classroom. Beyond our school, I developed a close relationship with ‘Education for All, Sierra Leone’ to coordinate a fundraising effort, raising over 2,500 CHF  to help cover the education fees of medical students in Sierra Leone.

I’m eager to bring this experience and passion to the UCL Women in STEM society. As Events Officer, I would love to help plan both social events that create an inclusive community, and academic events such as talks, workshops, and panels to highlight the amazing women across STEM. I’m also excited to explore partnerships with external organisations to expand our outreach beyond UCL.

Although I still have a lot to learn, I’m excited to meet and work with other like-minded people. For me, Women in STEM has always been a safe space to connect with others and share ideas. But beyond that, it’s also an opportunity to make a real difference in the UCL community and beyond.

Sun Yu

Hi all :)
My name is Sun and I co-founded the Women in STEM Society with the other committee members.
I am currently in charge of planning events, creating social media posts and hosting social and academic sessions.
Nominating myself now because I was still transferring from the BSc to the MSci program and did not get to nominate myself on time for the last election!
