When I joined Snowsports, I didn’t expect to be the only person who had never skied before - but from my first training session, I’ve felt completely at home. Everyone’s been ridiculously welcoming, whether I was snowploughing down the dry slope at 2mph or pretending I knew what they were talking about when I heard complaints with “carving” on dry slopes. This sense of belonging is exactly why I want to stand for Freshers Rep.

I want to help make the society even better by listening to all my fellow freshers’ feedback, from music on the coaches to needing more funnels at socials, and then communicating these suggestions and comments on to the committee.

I’m also keen to encourage more people to get involved - especially those who think they’re “not ski/snowboard material” or are only here for the Aprés. Trust me, from my experience, enthusiasm, humour, and perhaps a slight tolerance for Jägermeister are far more important than your ability to stay upright on skis or a snowboard. After all, with just a couple weeks of training, I somehow won at a ski race tournament despite being a spectator and so I promise to bring this same level and dedication of competitive spectating to my responsibilities in the Freshers Rep role.

Ultimately, I want to make sure everyone feels heard, included, and hyped to be part of what is already the best society at UCL so Vote for Eddie!

Dearest Freshers,

Getting to know you has been an absolute pleasure, and I can now say I’m fully capable of representing your interests, antics and well-being. To that end, I plan to make this year full of shoeys, shot skis, sending it, stacking it and everything in between.

Whether you need physio-therapy after a failed 360 or just plain therapy after a Wednesday night, I’ll make sure your voices are heard by the committee. Whatever your concerns may be, they’ll be mine too. So if you’re scarred from almost having a car crash in Anderson’s death wagon, suffering alcohol poisoning at Charlotte and Karim's socials, being publicly humiliated by Oscar on Insta or just being in Michael’s general vicinity at the pub - I’ll be there for you.

As Fresher Rep, I’ll commit to elevating Snowsports’ legacy (and probably lowering my dignity in the process). I think it’s safe to say I left my self-respect somewhere between voluntary shoeys and post-Kings celebrations. So, I say we make 2025 one to remember and nights at Scala ones we definitely don’t. After all, it’s not alcoholism if you’re not alone... so let’s make drinking an extreme sport this year!

Beyond ferality, I’d also like to bring up some practical ideas with our captains, such as the possibility of having freestyle and racing on different days (for those who swing both ways).

All that to say, it’d truly be an honour to foster a fun and friendly family of freshers, and I’d love to be your Rep!

Much love from Maia

Rosie Richardson

Since joining UCL, Snowsports Society has become such a big part of my uni experience as a place where I have already made so many great friends and memories. It combines two of my favourite things – skiing and socialising (oh, and a bit of alcohol of course).

Whether it’s attending every race training, going full out on sports night costumes or even braving the post Halloween Kings competition with a crippling hangover, I think it’s safe to say I’ve been a pretty committed fresher so far. I genuinely love to meet new people (big yapper over here) and am pretty much up for anything, as anyone who knows me can probably tell.

I am running for Freshers Rep because I would love to have the opportunity to get involved in Snowsports even more and be able to communicate cool ideas, or any questions and concerns, that the freshers have to our committee. Over the past couple of months, a lot of us freshers have got to know each other well and I feel I would be a great person to help expand this and connect the freshers and returners even more.

I love the big UCL Snowsports family that I have become a part of, and it would be amazing to be able to help all the freshers to embrace everything that the society has to offer this year!!

P.S. If you think you met me on curry night, 1. That wasn't me, and 2. Please reintroduce yourself because I probably don’t remember you.

Thank you and hopefully see you at our next social :))))

Would like to improve the communication of dates and other details for races/events, as well as promote the club to get more members.
