Tanmaye Shagotra

Hi, I’m Tanmaye Shagotra, and I’m running to be your Director of Political Economy at the UCL Political Risk and Intelligence Society.

Political Economy isn’t just about theory — it’s about understanding how power, policy, and markets shape the world we live in. As someone who has led research on global trade, fiscal governance, and development policy, I’ve come to appreciate how this field allows us to critically examine the forces behind today’s most urgent issues. This Society is a rare space where academic insight meets global relevance — and I want to make the Political Economy division a key driver of that mission.

As your Director of Political Economy, I will:

  • Expand academic engagement: Host interactive Policy discussion sessions where members can debate and discuss political economy affairs in a relaxed, open setting.
  • Promote mentorship and collaboration: Connect first-years with senior members and alumni for insights on academic development, research, and career opportunities.
  • Expand our community: Develop intercollegiate collaborations with similar societies across other UK universities and abroad.
  • Keep it interactive and inclusive – Run workshops, debates, and simulations that bring political economy to life — from budget negotiations to crisis response scenarios — and ensure every member has space to contribute.

Together, we can make the UCL Political Science and Economics Society a dynamic space where curiosity meets opportunity.
