I am standing for Medieval Society President in order to create a shared space for people interested in Medieval history and culture so that people on campus who may feel that they have not found their people have a group with whom they have a shared interest. This is exactly how I felt in my first year of university; I was quite lonely and I tried out various different societies to find a group of people that I may have a common interest with until I started attending Medieval Society events. I particularly enjoyed the discussion seminars on specific topics such as the War of the Roses, so as President I would strive to bring these back. Furthermore, I would work with other societies where possible to deliver some one off events. For example, as interim President I was contacted by an arts society to engage in a one-off arts and crafts event, which would be very effective for attracting new members as well as a change from our usual events, which usually consist of visiting museums or historical places. However, the latter would of course continue to be the bread and butter of our events as that is what is most engaging for people who have a common interest in Medieval history and culture. Also, I would reach out to relevant departments as President in order to get some speakers for talking events as has been done previously in the last 2 years. Thus, as President, I hope to create a shared space with interesting events for those interested in Medieval history and culture.
