Candidates

Nimesha Mediwaka

Hi, I’m Nimi, and I would love for the opportunity to give back to the MedSoc community through the role of Events Officer. Through this position, I want to host events to educate and inspire students about medicine, providing enrichment opportunities for their future medical careers.

If elected, I pledge to:

  • Improve sponsorship for events, to help keep events affordable for all.
  • Work with committee to develop new ideas and eye-catching posts to attract attention from sponsors and improve student engagement, and support the Specialty Chairs with running their events.
  • Collaborate with other affiliated societies to expand our audience, creating dynamic events that will be invaluable for specialty training portfolios.
  • Foster an environment of inclusivity within MedSoc events, working with the Welfare Officer to improve accessibility and ensure all participants can make the most out of our events.
  • Respond to feedback, and integrate these new ideas to implement meaningful change for core MedSoc events.

My experience as General Secretary for RUMS last year has left me well equipped to manage the administrative and logistical demands of Events Officer. Furthermore, I demonstrated my passion for events planning as part of RUMS events subcommittee for 3 years, organising and assisting at freshers events, the RUMS merch drop and Take Me Out. For this year, I hope to expand on initiatives already led by MedSoc, enabling more of the next generation of medics to get involved.

Raveena Boopathy

Hi, I’m Raveena, and I’d be honoured to be your next Executive Events Officer!

Why me?

📣 Publicity Powerhouse - As last year’s Publicity Officer, I’ve partnered with multiple MedSoc subcommittees to create eye-catching campaigns to make events stand out.

👩‍⚕️ Speciality Event Leader - I launched the first-ever UCL Obstetrics & Gynaecology Teaching Series and secured speakers for the O&G Christmas Social, giving me hands-on experience in speaker liaison and venue coordination.

🤝 MedSoc Event Expertise - I helped organise the MedSoc Networking Reception, working closely with committee members to deliver memorable experiences.

What ideas do I have for the role?

🌟 Personalised Mentorship Schemes - We can pair pre-clinical students with a clinical-year “mentor” who shares their specialty interest, offering bespoke portfolio advice on securing experience in research, audits, and leadership.

🌟 Next-level Networking Reception - Think specialty speed-mentoring pods, more interactive polls, fresh merch, and an expanded Battle of the Specialties.

🌟 Inter-university Collabs - We could collab with other London med schools for the iBSc symposium, bring fresh perspectives and broadening your network.

Vote Raveena for Executive Events Officer :)
