Hi, I'm Meg, a Second Year Politics and International Relations student, most interested in international and geopolitical issues.
I'm super excited to be part of govpol this year, and would love to contribute to the societies work - bridging the gap between politics academically and practically, especially in regards to future steps and careers. University can be overwhelming and I'd love to be part of a community of welcoming and like-minded people working together to better understand and approach it. As welfare officer, I can not only help other students make the most of departmental opportunities and advance their political interests, but also would be an approachable and friendly face to help other students make the most of their university experience in general!
As a Politics student who’s worked in political journalism (Al Jazeera), I’m passionate about how politics shapes real lives- but I also know how sensitive it can be. That’s why welfare has to come first.
As Welfare Officer, I’ll focus on making the Politics and Government Society a safe, supportive space for everyone. I’ll:
- Create open drop-in sessions for anyone who wants to talk or needs support.
- Organize relaxed, non-political socials to help members connect beyond debates.
- Work with the committee to ensure discussions stay respectful and inclusive.
- Promote wellbeing resources and mental health awareness during high-stress times (like election season or deadlines!).
My goal is simple: to make sure every member feels valued, listened to, and part of a genuine community.
