I’m standing for the Volunteer Officer role because studying Global Humanitarian Studies has given me a deep understanding of the systems that shape risk and vulnerability, but has also shown me that community engagement is where these ideas come alive. I’d love to help the society build meaningful volunteer opportunities, whether that’s supporting local resilience initiatives, awareness campaigns, or collaborations with humanitarian organisations.
My experience in advocacy, service, and student leadership has shown me how impactful well-organised volunteering can be. As Head of Student Wellness and Service at Brentwood College School, I coordinated large-scale community initiatives, hosting and coordinating over 700 students and staff, and led a network of volunteers and student reps, learning how to balance logistics with compassion and purpose. I’ve continued that through digital engagement work for UCL MAPS and international advocacy internships focused on education and protection in crisis-affected regions.
I’m passionate about humanitarianism not just as a field of study, but as a practice that starts with people showing up for one another. I want to help the society make volunteering feel accessible, collaborative, and genuinely meaningful for everyone who takes part. I’m especially interested in creating volunteering experiences that are inclusive and collaborative, where students feel their time and contributions genuinely matter. Thank you for your consideration! :)
