I am a master's student from Pakistan, one of the top five climate-vulnerable nations, directly affected by the 2025 floods. While serving as Project Manager for a Climate and Energy Transition Initiative funded by the Tara Climate Foundation at a digital media organisation amplifying marginalised voices, I came to understand how the climate crisis is deeply linked to global capitalist structures that prioritise profit over people and overlook the lived realities of communities that bear the heaviest burdens but remain unheard.
From raising awareness about atrocities in the Palestinian genocide to Zohran Mamdani becoming the first Muslim democratic socialist mayor of NYC, the campaigning power of social media cannot be denied. As the social media manager, I will dedicate all my efforts to harnessing this power to promote Climate Action at UCL.
Our social media will showcase events, protests, and campaigns, whilst raising awareness of the climate crisis and informing students on how to voice their concerns. Our multilingual and culturally inclusive content will engage the international community at UCL, as social media is a highly effective tool for building the global solidarity needed to tackle the climate crisis. In 2024, my campaign on climate policies in Pakistan reached ten million individuals on social media, mostly youth. I am genuinely excited to contribute to the student-led Climate Action Society through my digital media skills and passion for climate action.
