Maryn Wilkes

Hi all,

You may be surprised to see my nomination here, considering you all thought I was the race captain. Let me pitch my vice-commodoreship to you all.

The vice commodore position at UCL sailing exists to oversee day-to-day running of the club, as well as assist the commodore in any tasks that they are too busy for. I've already been down at the club these past weeks way too many times helping our most fabulous commodore Alec fix equipment and run sessions. As you may have seen, I've also been cooking up some volunteering activities for the sailing club (and I am currently working on continuing last year's sustainability initiative too). I may also happen to know a thing or two about running the club and so who better to identify where help is needed for our dearest commodore.

You might say that the above is exactly what the vice commodoreship is about. I could never say so myself, though; I’m but a humble, unassuming nominee, without the stature or the glory associated with the role. But if, hypothetically, you thought that what I described above was, in some way, ever so slightly, befitting of a vice commodore, then one might, in some far-off realm of consideration, conclude that voting for me could, perhaps, possibly, maybe, be a good idea. Only if you felt so inclined, of course. After all, the decision is yours alone. Far be it from me to sway you with such trivial notions—your judgment, esteemed and wise, is yours alone to wield.

Also I'll be doing more than Sam.
