Ben Smith

Hi!

I'm Ben and I play the cello in the UCL String Orchestra (as well as a bit of the piano and bass guitar in my spare time...). I would like to become the Freshers Rep not only because I have a real passion for all things musical, but also because I'd be sure to give 100% commitment and dedication to the role. I would greatly welcome having as active a role as possible within the UCL Music Soc, as I've always enjoyed being part of a thriving music department at school, and wish to carry that on during my time at uni.  I'm approachable, have really enjoyed being part of the society so far, and would like to support other freshers like me.

I'm standing for Freshers' Representative because I believe I can bring a valuable voice to our Music Society. Currently, I’m part of the strings orchestra, which has allowed me to immerse myself in the vibrant community within the Music Society. It has also proven that music is a force capable of bringing people together, despite everyone's diverse backgrounds. As a fresher myself, I understand the challenges of finding a place where you feel at home, especially in a new environment, and I want to make our society that welcoming space for everyone. In this role, I’d work hard to represent the unique perspectives of freshers, ensuring our ideas and interests are heard and understood. My goal is to foster an inclusive environment where members, whether they’re in the orchestra, choir, or simply music lovers, can connect, collaborate, and enjoy the musical journey together.

Ever since I joined the Music Society, I’ve come to love the community it has established—a place where people can share their passion for music and support one another. I want to be part of the team that builds and strengthens this society for other music lovers, helping to create the same welcoming experience that I've had.
