Ice Club: Social Secretary

I'm Harvey and i'm running for the position of social Secretary. This is my 4th and final year on the team so I am well experienced in the responsibilities of this role, having done it for the last 2 years. I am passionate about creating a strong community between the figure skaters and the hockey players, and have a ton of creative ideas for social and other club related events. I'm organised, approachable, and commited to making this a memorable and enjoyable year as possible!

I've been playing ice hockey all my life, and no matter what team I've been on, whether it was a serious, competitive team, or a more relaxed environment, the importance of maintaining a cohesive, uplifting, and most importantly, welcoming environment was always clear to me. I've served as team captain on a few occasions before, and I've noticed the quality of play and team environment significantly improve when someone ensures that the team bonds outside of practice and games. But I've come to accept that hockey is so much more than a competitive sport, it is a chance for people to create lifelong connections. To me, the position of social secretary is a personal one, I've been on both ends of watching a new team together, I've been part of the established core of the team, and I've been the outsider who just joined the team. I know the struggle of finding a home in a new team, and I want to use my skills to redefine the position of social secretary. I would prioritize inclusivity and cohesion within Ice club, I would organize more events aimed at including both the figure skating club and the hockey club. Ultimately, I have only been here for a short while, but I'm already proud to be part of the ice club family and am excited to contribute my part if I am awarded the position.

As someone who values the social side of being part of ice club, I would love to represent the figure skaters by being the second social sec. I want to bring more theme nights, with more advanced notice being given for Wednesday socials. I recognise that not many figure skaters go to Wednesday socials, so if they aren’t your thing, I’d love to plan some more chill activities, such as pottery painting or picnics etc., if that’s something that people would be interested in. However hopefully I’ll be able to change your mind about a Wednesday night - I love Scala to the point that it’s embarrassing !
