Hi! I'm Luca, a 3rd year BSc Physics student from Italy. I am staying at UCL for one year as an exchange student from the University of Bologna.
I decided to run for Hiking Club Secretary right after the amazing residential in the Lake District. I loved my time there and I would love to give back by helping the committee with everything that needs to be done in the future. Not only do I really enjoy hiking (you can see from the picture how happy I was when I hiked to one of the mountains near my hometown, in northern Italy), but I also have a lot of experience managing student activities: I was student representative for two years during high school and I then became president of the school's Students' Union. I developed good organizational and teamworking skills, so I think I would be the perfect fit for this position. Most importantly, expect a lot of smiles and good times together, because as well know hiking is fun!
Hi All! I’m running to be this year’s Hiking Secretary, helping to keep the club running smoothly and to assist the existing committee out with organisation and admin related tasks.
We haven’t had a newsletter in a while, so this is something that I hope to bring back, giving you a rundown of all the different planned walks and socials for the near future. This will help streamline the process for joining events so that you don’t have to spend as much time searching for information on the club’s website, Instagram, SU page etc. Afraid that you missed out on an event or didn’t take any pictures? As Secretary, I’ll have you covered – I will revive the club’s dormant blog and gallery and will try to include this in the newsletter as well!
Regarding organisation, recent train strikes, and construction work have meant that some of the hikes this term have been disrupted and people struggled to get to the start point on time (anyone remember the Seven Sisters hike?). As a committee member, I’ll try to keep you informed about any travel disruption a few days in advance so that everyone sets off from the start line together. Also, I’m keen to introduce a system to improve feedback from club members – maybe a way of rating and sharing your favourite hikes?
I’ve outlined just a few ideas about how I hope to improve the club, and with your support I hope to share and implement them with the committee!
As a dedicated second-year student who joined the UCL Hiking Club in September 2023 and has been a walk leader since January 2024, I am excited to nominate myself for the role of secretary. I am confident in my ability to fulfill this role effectively, fully committed to supporting the club’s operations and assisting members across various tasks.
Since joining, I have participated in 23 hiking trips, covering over 521 kilometers through weekend hikes, camping trips, and residential hikes. Additionally, I’ve actively engaged on social media platforms such as RED, helping answer questions, attract new members, and promote our club’s presence. My efforts have included outreach to students, including my mentees during Transition Mentor sessions, fostering a growing and engaged community.
With extensive experience and a strong commitment to the UCL Hiking Club, I am enthusiastic about the chance to serve as secretary. I look forward to contributing to our club’s success, welcoming new members, and helping create memorable hiking experiences for everyone involved!
Hi guys!
I have been to many of your societies events, including 3 residentials and other hikes, have experience as a walk leader, and am glad to have made many friends along the way. These experiences have given me an appreciation for everything you do as part of the committee and I would love to return the favour by offering my time and services!
I am passionate about hiking, camping and nature in general, with lots of experience all over the world, but especially within the United Kingdom. I hope I can bring this passion into this potential new role and am confident I will be up to the task. I have previous experience as treasurer of a medium sized society so am familiar with what would be expected as a committee member, including time commitments and interpersonal relations.
Thank you for reading and for everything you do for the society, I won't let you down!

Hi, I’m Andrew, a year 2 Mathematics student at UCL. I would like to nominate myself for the Secretary position!
My lifestyle is quite active: I enjoy football, cycling and (occasionally!) going to the gym. But most of all, I love hiking- I get to see the most beautiful sights and meet lovely people in the process! For me, hiking is the perfect activity to charge my battery after a long week and socialise. I have already met many friends in my first few hikes with the club, and we have even been planning to go on hikes in our own time!
I would love to channel my passion for hiking into a meaningful role at the Hiking Club. Specifically, I believe I would be a great fit for the role of Secretary mainly because of my excellent organisational skills.
I have previously honed these coordination skills as the secretary of my school’s Mathematics Society, where I carried out a range of tasks such as event planning, corresponding with club members and documenting proceedings. I enjoyed it because it required me to play a role in running so many parts of the society, and the work felt extremely substantial and rewarding.
With my combination of strong technical skills and passion for connecting with others, I already know that my time as the Secretary of the UCL Hiking Club will be a success!
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Andrew Heming Wang
I’m excited to apply for the role of Secretary of the UCL Hiking Club. I have served as the Secretary for the University of Birmingham Accounting and Finance Society during my undergrad study, which equipped me with a strong foundation in managing club operations and fostering smooth communication. In my previous role, I managed group meetings, ensuring the timely update and provision of committee contact details and membership information to the Student Development department; additionally, I participated in promotional endeavors through diverse channels including emails, Facebook, posters, and interactions with Guild media groups, which aligns with the tasks that a secretary role in UCL Hiking club might take and make me a strong candidate for this role.
After participating in a few hiking society events, I found that hiking in the outdoors is really enjoyable - although most of the time I can’t keep up with the main group lol. But I can really feel the relaxed and fun vibe of the committee through these activities, which is the major draw of applying for the Secretary role within the committee. I’m eager to contribute to UCL Hiking Club’s community and share the joy of hiking with everyone.
