Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarianism Society: Welfare Officer

Hello!

I'm standing to run for Welfare Officer as I have been the interim Welfare Officer for the society so far this year.

Having sat on committees for other societies, including being the president of Stage Crew Society, I bring a lot of knowledge and experience of working with the Students' Union and have been advising the DRRH committee on how to navigate union policies and get events up and running.

I am suitable for the role of welfare officer as I am a mental health first aider with the Scout Association and am able to listen and signpost people to relevant services. I have also previously worked with several mental health charities through the Scout Assocation to run sessions on wellbeing,

As welfare officer I would like to be approachable for students, and run drop-in sessions and welfare walks to allow people to express their concerns. I will also continue to support the events the society runs and arrange some socials of my own to encourage students to relax outside of university, particularly around exam seasons.
