I am interested to take on the role of Nudgeathon Director because my aspirations are rooted in improving people's lives by addressing the challenges they face. My passion for using behavioural science to solve real-world problems was truly deepened during the 2023/24 Nudgeathon. As a contestant in this fast-paced, 48-hour behavioural hackathon, I experienced first-hand the power of collaboration and creative thinking in designing effective interventions. The challenge of creating a solution to increase HPV vaccine uptake among young girls in middle- and lower-income countries was not only motivating but also eye-opening, providing valuable insights into the potential of behavioural science to drive global change. This experience ignited my desire to contribute to future Nudgeathons, with a focus on enhancing the event’s strategic direction, ensuring that it pushes boundaries and continues to inspire participants to address critical social issues. I strongly value working closely with others and learning from them, as I believe collaboration fosters diverse solutions and sparks innovative thinking. With my background in psychology, project management experience, and a commitment to cross-cultural collaboration, I am eager to empower the BIS team to organise and execute a successful event while cultivating a dynamic and inclusive environment for all involved.
As an active member of UCL BIS last year, having participated in both the Applied Projects and Nudgeathon, I would like to help bring such brilliant opportunities to other society members in this new academic year. For instance, I benefited greatly from participating in last year's UCL x LSE Nudgeathon (2024) competition, where my team designed an intervention for UNICEF to boost HPV vaccination among young girls in low- and middle-income countries. In the event, not only was I inspired by how behavioural science can be harnessed to tackle global health challenges, I learnt so much by collaborating with students with diverse experiences and backgrounds, including undergraduate, Mater's and PhDs students studying at UCL, LSE, and Cambridge.
During the competition, I also got to speak to some of the former Nudgeathon Directors, and recognised the challenges the role faces. If elected as Nudgeathon Director, I am excited to apply the knowledge I gained from my experience to organise Nudgeathon for 2025 and provide the contestants with the resources and mentorship they need to excel (but also have fun!). I am prepared to use my skills in sponsor outreach, event planning, communication, etc. to ensure a positive experience for all contestants and guests - get excited for the awards ceremony and prizes coming your way!
