I am running for President of the Chinese Arts Society because Chinese traditional arts have been an integral part of my life since a very young age. I began learning the erhu and bamboo flute at the age of five, and over the years I have developed both strong performance experience and a deep passion for promoting Chinese culture.
I have received several awards, including the Bronze Award at the First National Erhu Solo Invitational Competition in Zhejiang Province and the Silver Award in the Erhu category at the West Lake Music Festival. At UCL, I am the principal erhu and bamboo flute player of the You Chun Lai Ensemble, and I have performed at various cultural events such as activities held at the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Chinatown cultural events, and UCL Chinese New Year Galas.
Beyond performance, I have actively contributed to the Chinese Arts Society. In Term 1, I participated in and helped organise society events, performing erhu at society activities. I also assisted the previous President in planning events, including an off-campus visit to Kew Gardens, and had the opportunity to learn and incorporate elements of Chinese tea culture into our activities.
In addition, I have strong connections with music ensembles. If elected, I would be able to invite fellow musicians from these groups to perform at our events, enriching the variety and quality of the Chinese Arts Society’s activities and helping to showcase Chinese arts in a more diverse and engaging way.
