We are thrilled to announce the start of our TeamUCL volunteering partnership with Regent's High School. At Students' Union UCL, we are proud to empower our student groups and their members to make an impactful contribution to the community beyond UCL, and partnering with a school in such close proximity to campus has been something we have been excited to celebrate. The adjoining Somers Town Community Sports Centre is a space known well to our students, many of whom train and play their fixtures at the facility. This volunteering partnership consolidates our work with the school and the sports centre to contribute to a physically active community in the area that surrounds the complex.
Sofia Karamanopoulou, PE teacher and Equality Diversity and Inclusion Leader at the school described how "the collaboration between the UCL Volunteer Programme and Regent High School has proven invaluable to our academic community. Our school welcomed two UCL volunteers in January 2024 who have seamlessly integrated into our physical education department, demonstrating their passion and commitment to enhancing the student experience."
She went on to explain how "this partnership has provided volunteers with a unique opportunity to both learn from and collaborate with education professionals, refining their skills and making meaningful contributions to our team and work."
Two students from our Badminton Club, Yihan Hu and Alina Phang Li Ren, have been delivering badminton skills sessions to pupils and the school since January, and the school have noted how "the volunteers' dedication and adaptability were commendable, fostering a positive impact on both the school community and their personal development. Students benefited significantly from the additional support, gaining diverse perspectives and enriched learning experiences."
We are excited to see how this partnership will develop, and would encourage any UCL student or sports club interested in learning more about future volunteering opportunities at Regent's High School to email [email protected]. Regent's High School have expressed the importance of "prospective volunteers to consider this partnership as an avenue for personal development as well as community impact".
