Do you live in Ramsay Hall, Astor Hall, Campbell House or Ifor Evans & Max Rayne?
As the year comes to an end, are you starting to feel nostalgic and look back at how much you loved living in your hall community? If so, this could be the opportunity for you, because this September we are launching our new look hall welcome volunteer scheme in these residences.
If you can remember you first day moving into halls - the nerves, the excitement, the confusion - you'll remember how much it helps to see a friendly face. This year, we want you to help us bring the feeling of community and welcome from day one by volunteering as Freshers' Hall Reps. This is all about being the older sibling to the fresh faced newbies when they arrive to start their new adventure. You'll be there the day they move in, having a chat about all the exciting things that their first week at uni has in store for them. You'll be the one warning them not to miss the Koko club night or not to trust the quick setting on the washing machines.
There are some pretty good perks too..
We want to hear from people who love their hall and want to help new students enjoy their time there just as much as you did. And, in exchange for your help, we have a few perks we can offer you. A free ticket to a freshers’ club night of your choice, reimbursement of travel costs, and queue jump at the Welcome Fair. These are perks that can only be won through the power of the coveted yellow Freshers’ Halls Rep t-shirt. Not to mention, it’ll look pretty good on your CV and Higher Education Achievement Record.
So what do you need to do?
Firstly, make sure you're free on moving in weekend. We'll split up the shifts, but you need to be free for most of the 26 and 27 September. On those days, we'll set you up in the Freshers' Hall Rep HQ in your hall (with goodies!) and then you make the magic happen! We're not expecting you to hulk bags or cuddle emotional freshers', but we know that you can bring the fun, reassuring and upbeat attitude that will remind them that everyone is in the same boat and they are about to embark on some of the best times of their life.
There's also a half day of training we lay on for our volunteers (can't have you going in unarmed!), so do check that you can make one of the sessions (either 17 or 18 September).
If you (and maybe some friends!) are free and think you'd be up for getting involved, all you need to do is complete this little form and prepare to be involved in one of the most rewarding things you can do here.
PS
If you don't live in any of these halls, don't worry - you can still become a Welcome Volunteer. Find out the details here.
