UCL East Community Christmas Lunch: A Heart-warming Celebration
Sharing joy and warmth with friends old and new, isn’t that what Christmas is all about? The festive spirit was clearly present on our East campus at the Student Union’s Christmas Fair.
The invitation to the event, which took place on Thursday 7th December, was also extended to local organisations that support older people across East London. This meant that people of all ages were able to come together and enjoy the range of arts and crafts activities at the fair, all in a festive atmosphere complete with Christmas hits and a (virtual) log fire.
Students and guests were able to mingle as everyone unleashed their creativity on hand made Christmas cards, festive canvas paintings and decorated seasonal terracotta pots. The event also proved a great opportunity to create and obtain a range of gifts ideal for Christmas. Besides the handmade presents (we’re not all artists, but these are certainly the most heartfelt!) there was also a great range of stalls, meaning there was something on offer for everyone. At one of these a talented student showed an awed audience how to create beautifully festive jewellery in seconds. The pop-up from The Hanger certainly also provided a much-welcomed opportunity to do some further Christmas shopping, with a wide range of UCL merchandise, clothing and accessories available. Students and guests alike were able to truly take in the festive spirit, and a heart-warming sense of community could be felt by all.
Having finished some much-needed Christmas shopping and crafting, guests were invited to down their paintbrushes and glue sticks and continue festivities in the refectory for a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. What better way to bring people together than over delicious food and drinks? And yes, of course there was mulled wine.
After dinner, the guests were able to take a look at our famous Gaia globe – and help to map out the fastest routes around the word from the North Pole!”
