Last night the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) published its updated draft Code of Practice on single-sex spaces, following the Supreme Court's ruling last year that sex under the Equality Act refers to biological sex. Here's what we said when the initial consultation took place.

We know this news will be concerning for many of our trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming students. We want to be clear: our commitment to creating a trans inclusive environment has not changed and we will continue to support and further the rights of trans students at UCL.

We have been preparing for this guidance since the Supreme Court ruling and are working with UCL to understand what it means in practice for our spaces, services and student groups. We will share more detailed information as soon as we are able to, and we will continue to advocate for guidance that protects the dignity, safety and inclusion of our whole community.

In the meantime, if you are affected by this news and need support, the following organisations are here to help:

  • Galop: support for LGBTQ+ victims of abuse and violence at galop.org.uk

You can also reach our Advice Service if you have concerns about how this affects you at UCL.

We will keep you updated.
