This advice applies to the 2023/24 academic year.

If you recently did assessments in the Late Summer Assessment (LSA) period, your results may already have been released to you or are going to be shortly. We know this can be a stressful time, so we’ve put together some useful information about what happens next.

When will I get my results?

There isn't a single ‘results day’ like at other times of the academic year, because results are released as they are confirmed. You may receive your marks to your UCL email address/be able to view them on Portico anytime from now, until early October. Departments and Faculties will process their results at different times, so please don’t worry if yours take longer than others!

Sometimes, Departments release provisional results before the final confirmed ones.

If you're an Undergraduate, you'll be emailed results and awards, or progression information if you're continuing your studies.

If you're a Postgraduate who took assessments in the LSA period, you probably won’t have your results confirmed until November along with your dissertation results.

Different programmes use different rules to calculate your final classification. You can find the standard regulations in the Academic Manual (Section 10 Classification).

Resits and Repeats

If you have failed any assessments and have attempts remaining, or have deferred any assessments, you will be notified of this in your results email.

These will take place during the 2024/25 academic year and your department will be in contact with the arrangements.

Unhappy with your results or need support?

If you are unhappy with your results, or would just like some general feedback, you may want to contact your department or personal tutor to arrange a time to discuss this. You can do this even if your results are provisional

UCL's Student Support and Wellbeing team is also on hand if you would like some extra support. You can find more information about the support they can offer on results day here.

If you have reason to believe that UCL’s academic regulations and related procedures were not followed correctly in the marking of your exam, you may want to consider submitting an academic appeal. However, please note that it is not possible to submit an appeal on the basis of academic judgement. This means that appeals will not be considered on the grounds that the examiners’ assessment was incorrect. This is because all assessments will already have undergone a rigorous marking and moderating process.

You can also submit an academic appeal if there were circumstances which significantly affected your assessments, but you were unable to submit an Extenuating Circumstances claim at the time. Please note however that you will need to provide compelling reasons with supporting evidence to show why you were unable to notify your department of these circumstances during the period of your assessment.

You can appeal if yYou can appeal if you have received confirmation of your results via Portico and email. If you have only received provisional results, you won’t be able to appeal yet.

We have a guide to the Academic Appeals process and a guide to completing the required form:

Please note - due to the volume of appeals UCL receive at this time, you may not have an outcome before the beginning of the new academic year. This means that if you’re hoping for a successful appeal outcome to be able to progress to the next year, this may not be possible and your progression may be delayed. Any reassessments as a result of a successful appeal are unlikely to be scheduled until summer 2025.

If you are considering making a change to your studies, such as a repetition of the past year or taking a break altogether, UCL has provided some advice here.

Certificate and Transcripts

If you have completed your degree, you will now be sent your certificate and five copies of your transcript to your home address. You should receive these documents within 3 months of results day. Your home address details must be up to date on Portico – there should be a date that this must be done by in your results email.

Finalists can also download a Statement of Award letter from Portico, to show your degree has been awarded.  You can also access and share a Digital Award Certificate from around two weeks after results.

You can find more information about transcripts and award certificates on the UCL website.
