Announcing Your Student Leadership Team for the next academic year

Darcy, your Postgraduate Officer, shares how she is positively impacting the career support space

As Postgraduate Officer, I work hard to ensure that your interests are represented and you have access to a wide range of opportunities to further your postgraduate experience at UCL. I've been working closely with UCL Careers, who are hosting a series of online events for students and graduates looking to work in China. These events are designed to help you explore career opportunities, gain insights, and access the support and guidance you need.

Our online panel discussions will bring together industry professionals from various sectors in China to share their experiences, discuss essential skills for success, and explore current challenges and future innovations.

We have a wide range of panellists from the consulting sector (including EY,  PwC and KPMG), the tech and digital sector (including HuaWei, Xiaomi, Hangzhou data exchange and NIO Automative), the brands and FMCG sector (including Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Estee Lauder Companies, Nike), and so many more.

These are fantastic opportunities for all students who aspire to work in China after graduation to discover the industries they are interested in. For those who are still debating which career path to go for, the panel discussions will allow you to narrow the info gaps and get more prepared for your future

The process behind this opportunity

In order to bring this opportunity to you, I have been conducting research and gathering student feedback to understand your needs and expectations. I have been in consistent communication with UCL Careers to emphasise the importance of these events for not only your employability, but your mental wellbeing, too.

My hope is that these types of events will really benefit your overall experience, and help to bridge the information gap and enhance career prospects. We have lots more in the pipeline for the future, including autumn sector-themed Fairs returning in the 2025/26 academic year, featuring the following industries: Management Consultancy, Banking, Finance & Economics, Law, IT & Tech, and Engineering & The Built Environment.

What impact will this have on students who want to work in China after graduation?

I hope that these events will play a crucial role in bridging the information gap for job seekers within the UCL community - supporting both recent graduates and current students. This is especially important for postgraduate taught students, who only have one year at UCL - meaning that from the moment you start your studies, you are already feeling the pressure of job hunting. As the sessions will be running online, I hope that they will allow even more students to participate.

I really encourage you to register and attend these sessions. If possible, take some time to research the guest speakers on LinkedIn beforehand and prepare the questions you’d like to ask. Book your spot now!
