In December 2021, UCL decided not to re-join Stonewall’s Diversity Champions scheme or make a submission to the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. Two schemes UCL had been part of prior to the pandemic.
Our LGBTQ+ community spoke out against this decision. Read our statement made in response.
A petition was started that called on UCL to re-join the two Stonewall schemes. The petition has reached more than 6,500 signatures.
As part of our LGBTQ+ History Month events programme, we hosted a conversation between Angel Ma, our LGBQ+ Officer, and Dr Michael Spence, UCL President and Provost.
This was an opportunity for all students and staff to put their questions to the Provost and hear first-hand Dr Michael Spence’s response. Shortly after the meeting the Provost issued a statement confirming a number of commitments discussed on the call.
The event was broadcast live via Zoom and viewers were able to submit questions during the call.
