LGBTQ+ History Month is an opportunity to look beyond linear timelines and celebrate the many ways queer lives, cultures, and resistances have shaped our world. We have put together a list of events happening around London – from guided gallery and city walking tours to exhibitions and live readings – that brings LGBTQ+ stories out of the margins and into public view.

Here are our top LGBTQI+ History Month events to check out across the city.

Art through the ‘Queer Lens’

Join Gallery Educator and art historian, Dr. Tilly Scantlebury in revisiting the wonderful work at the National Gallery from a different perspective. The tours will be accompanied by a series of talks and discussions around the queer perspective on art by Dr. Scantlebury, who has been delivering outreach workshops to young people and adults, which widen access to art history. Alongside public programmes, they  also write and deliver lectures in their research specialism of feminist, queer modern and contemporary art. This walking tour will take you around the different rooms in the National Gallery, looking at various paintings. It will be delivered in spoken English with British Sign Language interpretation.

The event is free to access and running on multiple dates, however places are available on a first come, first served basis. Please look at the following link for more details: LGBTQ+ History Month 2026: Tour and talk

LGBTQ+ History Tour of Central London

While the LGBTQ+ community’s presence is visible today across every borough and street in London, the city holds many stories of resistance, love, inequalities, and power. Join the walking tour to celebrate the iconic people and places that have made pride possible for the community. From Piccadilly Circus and its history of illicit soirees, to the heart of one of the most famous queer districts in Europe, Soho, you will discover the powerful, celebratory, and dark history of the LGBTQ+ movement.

This event runs on a ‘pay what you want basis’ but no payment is required to join. Please visit the following link for more details.

Exploring Queer Literature

Queer people have existed throughout history, whether in tropes or subtexts, despite discrimination and repression. The Nunhead Library in Southwark is hosting an exhibition of queer literature focussing on four themes of British literature – English, Scottish, Irish, and Welsh – in which queer people are visible.. This event is free to visit, just have a look at the library opening hours. Please visit the following link for more information and directions.

Pride in Poetry: POW!

Words are not symbols of resistance; they are its substance. For the LGBTQ+ community, language has carved out visibility where none was allowed, inviting those forced into hiding to claim presence without fear. Queer poets Lee Campbell, Nathan Evans and Colin B Osborn of the ‘Play On Words!’ are reading a collection of their queer poetry at the Southwark Heritage Centre and Walworth Library. This relaxed session is open to everyone, whether you are new to poetry or a poet yourself! Please visit this link for directions and accessibility information.

Art Exhibition at the Brixton Tate Library

Under Our Skin is a group art exhibition that explores how queer identities are shaped by learned lessons, lived experiences, and survival. Through diverse perspectives, it traces the marks left by words, spaces, and moments, from harm to belonging, that come to be embodied. The collection is curated by queer artist, Xavier White and will be presented at the Brixton Tate Library on February 5, 2026. The event has multiple varities of tickets, including free entry and ‘pay-what-you-want’. Please check the following link for directions and more details.
