Academic Reps do one of the most important jobs in the Union: They ensure students have a voice in enhancing their education.
Each month, we’re featuring your reps and the work they’re doing to improve UCL. If you have an idea about improving your course, your department, or UCL, you can contact your Academic Rep using our 'Find Your Rep page'.
February's Academic Rep of the Month: Kynan Ho
Kynan has impressed us with his dedication to following up on student difficulties with his department and advocating for necessary changes and ensuring extra student support on dissertation, submission, and other matters.
Kynan is also leading a number of initiatives across the department to help future cohorts have a better experience, such as building a centralised platform for staff to advertise research opportunities to students and strenghtening staff-student dialogue.
Kynan's work has been exceptional and we wish him all the best in the future!
Here's a bit more about Kynan:

Hey everyone! I'm Kynan, the Y3 Politics and International Relations (PIR) Course Rep as well as the Lead Department Rep for the Department of Political Science. I am honoured and privileged to have been selected as the Academic Rep of the Month!
As a course rep, I have worked closely with my fellow reps to advocate for the interests of our peers. Not only do we highlight the issues our peers have faced, but we are always ready to work with the department to find mutually agreeable solutions. As the department rep, I have also worked with the department to explore potential ways to implement various initiatives I had to improve the general student experience within the department for both PPE and PIR students. These include efforts to help future students make more informed decisions during the module selection process, and potential pathways to improve the assessment structure and reinforce pedagogical outcomes.
Personally, I came from a rather STEM-heavy background, having taken Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Economics in my A Levels back in Singapore. However, my passion for foreign affairs motivated me to study PIR at UCL, and I have not regretted the decision a single bit since. I have greatly enjoyed my time at UCL and the Department of Political Science, and I will continue to work with my peers and the department to play my part in further improving the student experience for future students!
