Here are 9 ways you can make a little extra money as a student.

1. Get a part-time job at the Students' Union

Check out our JobShop board for available opportunities. While your studies undoubtedly come first at university, you can make the most of your ample free time by earning some money as a student. Getting a part-time job at the Students' Union is a great way to expand your skills and earn some cash.

2. Dog Walking

Dog walker - If you've got lots of spare time in the day, consider becoming a dog walker - your schedule is the perfect match for people who want their dog to be walked while they are out at work. Posting in your local community board is a good place to start. Heads up, having insurance as a dog walker is very important. The minimum cover you need is third-party liability insurance. You can earn from £10-£25 an hour, depending on length of walk, location, how far you have to go to pick up the dog, if the dog can be walked alone or not.

3. Retail & hospitality

Working in a shop, bar or restaurant has long been a great way to pick up some cash while studying at university. You could also have the added benefit of tips too. Plus, working in the service industry helps you to hone in on your skills. 4. Tutoring

Around the exam season for GCSE students or A-level students, people are always looking for a tutor. Why not sell your knowledge by teaching students what you know? This money maker can be quite profitable, with the earning potential being about £25-35 an hour. If you like the idea of collecting the cash, you need to advertise your talents on job boards for locals to see or use tutoring sites.

5. Get creative

Get creative - Freelancing, for example, is a great way to earn money. If you're not sure where to start, contacting charities or small businesses to see if they need help on any written, design or content creation is a great way to make a little extra cash. 6. Sell unwanted items

Sell unwanted items - such as clothes, games, and old course books. Try Facebook Marketplace, Depop, Vinted, or even our very own Hanger Marketplace.

7. Temporary/ Seasonal Jobs

Temporary (Temp) Jobs - Using your spare time over the holidays, such as over Christmas and summer breaks, can really make a difference. You could work over the summer while upskilling yourself in administration, or get a temporary position for a retailer over Christmas. 8. Become an Extra

Become an extra -  This is a really fun way to earn a bit of extra cash. If you’re interested in acting then this is a good start to get some experience of what it’s like to be on a set, or even if you are just interested in film. 9. Tap into your natural talent

It could be fixing bikes, painting, gardening, cleaning, photography, art & design, baking, knitting - whatever it is that you've got skills in, promote your services across social media as freelance and available to gain some quick cash.
