Bio:

My name is Adam Everett. I am a IV Dan Black Belt in ITF Taekwon-do and I am currently in my third year of studying Medicine at UCL. I started training in Taekwon-do when I was 5 years old and achieved my black belt certification at the age of 8. Since then I have competed consistently at high level competition, initially competing on the national circuit and first reached international level at the age of 14. I currently train with Richards TKD in Cornwall, however whilst I am at university I continue my training with Trenic TKD Academies and UCL Taekwondo. During a typical week, I train 4 times a week, however this increases to 6 times in the build-up to international competitions. This includes 4 training sessions at my club and 2 training sessions at regional and national squad training. I am also a member of the Richards TKD and UCL Taekwondo instruction teams and help to pass on my experience to the members at these clubs.

My first international competition was at the European Championships in Naples in 2011, where I achieved a Bronze medal position in U18 Male II Dan Patterns and also represented Team UK in the junior team events. Since then I have competed at the World Championships in Canada (2012), Rome (2014) and Brighton (2016) and European Championships in Barcelona (2013) and Chisinau (2015). My most notable achievements include becoming a Junior World Champion in two events at the World Championships in Rome, becoming Adult European Champion in Chisinau and Adult World Champion in Brighton. I also travelled to Buenos Aires for the World Championships this summer as part of the coaching team for Team UK.

Alongside my Taekwon-do training, I also received strength and conditioning coaching as part of the Elite Academy at Truro College during my time studying there and I continued this training independently in my local gym up to 3 times a week after I left. I am looking forward to receiving more sport specific strength and conditioning training as part of the Elite Athlete Programme at UCL.

Since coming to UCL, I have explored WT Taekwondo, the Olympics style, which has many differences to the ITF Taekwon-do, the traditional style which I am familiar with. I have represented UCL at the BSTF Student National Championships for two years, winning the ITF divisions, however not placing in the WT divisions. I wish to improve on these results at the BSTF Student National Championships this year and in years to come. UCL Taekwondo have been the overall winning university at both of these championships that I've attended and I hope to help them repeat this achievement for a third year, both through competing and through helping the lead coach, Amar Farooq, in coaching the rest of the team.
