Progress so far
Here's some of what we've been working on and testing out.
1. Upvoting at the Welcome Fair-
Over the welcome period, we asked students to vote on whether to have Meat Free Monday and to upvote agenda items for the upcomign Welcome General Assembly/All Student Meeting.
2. Proxy Voting at the Company General Meeting
Our Mem & Arts dictate that students are allowed to vote via proxy at a Company General Meeting and, 1299 proxy votes were cast. The reasons why students cast their vote online instead of at the meeting was largely down to student-related extracurricular activities, work or placements and personal reasons.
3. Amending Quoracy for All Student Meetings
At our November CGM students voted to lower quoracy from 2% to 1% making a quorate All Student Meeting more achievable.
4. Having Guest Speakers at Democratic Events
Our Union Council meetings this year have had Guest Speakers including UCL East and UCL Security. We have also had Provost and President Professor Michael Arthur as a Guest Speaker ahead of our January All Student Meeting.
5. Turning Union Council into more relevant Zones
Rather than having over 60 students with varying remits coming together to make policy on a range of issues, we're considering splitting Union Council into the following zones:
6. Improving the Elections
We're working hard to inspire student leaders to stand in the Leadership Race and vote.
7. Rewriting our Bye-Laws
We want students to understand how we're governed so we're making changes to Bye-Laws to make them easier to understand and in turn, make processes and structures more accessible.
