We at UCL Boat Club would like to welcome members past and present to be involved in the Mandy Walker Alumni Weekend, also known as Bentham Regatta.
This is part of a wider Alumni Weekend organised by Students’ Union UCL. The Mandy Walker Weekend is an annual sporting tradition in which TeamUCL sporting alumni return to UCL for games, training sessions, and socials with current club members. The Mandy Walker Games were created in honour of a former student, hockey player and sports officer (1985-1986) who tragically passed away shortly after her graduation.
Her friends created the games in her memory. The event, open to all TeamUCL alumni, is a fantastic opportunity to catch up with old friends, and for current club members to get to know the previous custodians of their club.
At UCL Boat Club, we are combining this event with the return of the Bentham Regatta, an opportunity to race students versus alumni, and in mixed boats across the two, for ultimate glory.
This year, we would also like to invite you to stay for a drink after racing, to celebrate the naming of our new men’s Filippi 8+, after our very own Professor Ian Bates.
An opportunity to connect with old friends, meet current students, and be part of our ongoing history – what more could you want from a Saturday? 😊
While families and under-18s cannot participate in the activity, Chiswick is a lovely suburb of West London with cafes, parks and other things for families to do, as well as spectating the rowing races too! Families and friends are most welcome to celebrate the afternoon with us.
