Are you passionate about sustainability and want your voice heard on a global stage? Here's your chance!

COP30 is the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (Conference of the Parties) taking place from November 10-21, 2025, in Belém, Brazil. Each year, UCL researchers attend COP, helping to shape climate action on the global stage.

Join us for the Term 1 Student Sustainability Forum, where you can hear from UCL academic experts who have attended previous climate COPs, ask questions, and take part in discussions around the COPs.

Have burning questions about climate action? Want to learn about how the world's top climate and biodiversity conferences work? This event is the perfect platform for you to ask, learn, and make your voice count - the UCL team will take your ideas with them to the COP.

Speakers:

•    Prof. Mark Maslin, Professor of Earth System Sciences, and Pro-Vice Provost for the Grand Challenge of the Climate Crisis
•    Prof. Lisa Vanhala, Pro Vice-Provost for the Grand Challenge Theme of the Climate Crisis
•    Dr Marina B Romanello, Executive Director, the Lancet Countdown
•    Dr Yaroslav Melekh, Research Fellow in Economics of Energy Innovation and System Transition

Our expert academic staff will provide a short introduction to the COPs and how they work, before we break into small-group discussions on more specific topics. We will then feedback to the wider group and reflect on the discussions.

Please note this event is in-person only, to facilitate meaningful discussions between our staff and students. You don't have to know anything about climate change or COPs to take part - it's free and open to all!

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. Registration is required.

After this event, students are warmly invited to join Prof. Lisa Vanhala for the launch of her new book, Governing the End: The Making of Climate Change Loss & Damage. This will take place 18:30-20:30 in the Roberts Building; for full details and to register, click here.

The location is Room 225, Central House, 14 Upper Woburn Pl, London WC1H 0NN.
