This event allows you a chance to hear from our 3 alumni from industries (higher education, renewable energies and civil society) and a public policy expert from UCL to learn more their insights on career development, job search and networking with free refreshments provided. This event is open to all UCL undergraduate and postgraduate students - primarily for students who self-identify as women but open to all allies 💜
Speakers who will be taking part
Molly McCabe
Molly McCabe (she/they) is the Community Research Initiative Manager at Students' Union UCL. She works to support students to connect their research and study skills to the real world through community engaged dissertations, community research consultancy, and mini community research projects.
Her students work to co-create research that addresses problems identified by the voluntary and community sector and produces useful and useable outputs. Her work seeks to building bridges between the university and the wider community through authentic and equitable partnerships. Molly is also an alumni of UCL and the Community Research Initiative, conducting her dissertation in Child Development in partnership with Autistica, a national autism charity.
She has worked as a researcher within the field of autism research throughout the United States and Europe and has led on community engagement on studies across UCL, University of Cambridge, and University of Washington.
Sophie Aldebert
Sophie transitioned from Chemical Engineering to UX (User Experience) to focus on human experiences over lab experiments. With an MSc in Science, Technology & Society from UCL, she now works at Centrica (British Gas), following experience at a tech start-up. She helps businesses become people-centric and drive long-term value.
A strong advocate for mentoring, her passion for public speaking has led her to speak at tech conferences in London and now across Europe. Actively engaged with London’s UX community, she encourages others to grow their networks, just as she built hers from scratch by starting conversations.
Alexandra Hartman
Professor Hartman is a Political Science professor who joined the department in 2016, and currently teaches modules at the undergraduate and postgraduate level on research methods, fieldwork and the political economy of migration.
- Her current research encompasses themes of property rights in Liberia, the politics of forced displacement and how economic policies shape intrahousehold politics, with a focus on women’s property rights. She has two ongoing projects in Myanmar and Côte d’Ivoire, examining how access to land and resources influences dynamics within households.
- Beyond academia, she brings diverse experience from the financial sector at Goldman Sachs (2005-06) and humanitarian work with the Norwegian Refugee Council (2011-12). She is also actively engaged with policy and research groups, including the Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP), Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), and the Land Politics Working Group (joint with LSE).
Annisa Putri Kumaladewi
Annisa Kumaladewi is a Business Analyst at the International Planned Parenthood Federation, where she supports the Members Association Development and Impact Team through data analysis and technology integration.
She works closely with the Head of Portfolio Management and the Strategy Director to generate insights that inform decision-making throughout the Secretariat and its members. Her key responsibilities include developing interactive dashboards that present critical insights and solutions to the organisation’s Director Leadership Team.
Additionally, she plays a leading role in implementing global technology solutions across IPPF’s network of more than 130 associations, streamlining business planning and reporting processes. Prior to joining IPPF, she studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics with Social Data Science at University College London.
