A practical workshop making music for a UCL200 Artist in Residence performance exploring patterning in music - from Jazz to experimental, pop to classical, pattern is the backbone of music, repeating motifs and visual notation. Co-led with artist and musician Benji Jeffrey.
We will be focusing on graphic scores and the way visual imagery can be interpreted as music. Responding to the design that Lauren has created alongside students for a spectacular backdrop in the Bloomsbury Theatre, the music we make will respond to the patterns and reinterpret them as sound!
Bring your instruments along.
There will be a follow up workshop to this one on Thursday 11th June 12-3pm, it's not obligatory to come to both but it would be great if you are able!
The music we make will have choreography made to it during another workshop the same week so do come along to that one too if you're interested to dance! Pattern of Movement workshop we'll also be making costumes in the Pattern of Costume workshop so spread the word and come along!
If you'd like to be part of the performance it will take place on 2nd October 2026 in the Bloomsbury Theatre and there will be a couple of rehearsals at the start of term to prepare for this.
You can further be a part of this project by applying to take part in painting the backdrops in situ at the Bloomsbury Theatre in June / July! Find more information and apply here https://studentsunionucl.org/product/202023
