- Hosted by Genetics Society
Our February Journal Club session will highlight the cutting-edge research in plant biology 🌿, discussing how genetics, development, and variation shape how plants survive, grow, and adapt.
We are excited to welcome 3 wonderful PhD researchers from the John Innes Centre, a leading independent UK research institute in plant science, genetics, and microbiology, to explore the exciting topic of plant biology. The John Innes Centre also offers an excellent international undergraduate summer school 🏫, providing hands-on research experience across microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, and computational biology.
Hyeonmin Jeong from the Carella Group will present exciting research on the origin, evolutionary history, and diversity of plant immune systems 🛡️, focusing on how the transition from water to land shaped plant–microbe interactions using liverwort as model system and comparative genomics and multiomics approaches.
Petra Merzan will discuss work from the Sablowski Group on the genetics 🧬 and cell biology of meristem function 🌱 and early organ development. Using confocal imaging, Petra explores how variation in cell size during the cell cycle influences tissue organisation and plant architecture.
Samuel Bruty from the Arora Group will present their research on 🌎 natural diversity within 🫛Pisum (Pea) species and its role in environmental resilience, discussing how genetic variation influences interactions with root-associated bacteria and responses to root-rot pathogens🦠.
