This workshop will guide volunteers through the process of creating tactile books for blind children. After an informative talk on the theory behind tactile book design, participants will have a chance to storyboard their designs and experiment with materials. They'll also be able to handle existing books from ClearVision’s collection to understand how tactile books work. While some may finish their books during the workshop, others can take theirs home to complete.
ClearVision, the UK's only lending collection of fully-textured tactile books, will receive the finished books to support visually impaired children in developing touch skills and learning braille.. Volunteers will learn to design and assemble interactive, sensory-rich pages, contributing to ClearVision’s mission of providing valuable resources for visually impaired children.
While drop-ins are not ideal due to the complexity of the process, to support everyone, we will provide “in a nutshell” info on tables and detailed handouts for further guidance. It's recommended that volunteers stay/are available for the full session to avoid disruptions and ensure a complete understanding of the process."
