Team Up For Social Mobility!

Team Up Is Recruiting Volunteer Maths & English Tutors

In the UK today, the best predictor of a child’s academic and social success remains the income and postcode of their parents. We believe that this is damaging to society as too many young people are unable to develop their skills and passions to shape their own destiny.

What You Will Do:

We are looking for inspirational role models who will tutor Maths or English on one of our school programmes across London. You will be matched to a small group of disadvantaged pupils who are underperforming and you will provide them with the academic support, encouragement and inspiration they need to get back on track.

Why You'll Love It:

You can make a real change! The majority of our pupils double their expected progress during one programme and also gain a lot more confidence in their own learning!

Not only will you have a meaningful experience and learn a range of important transferable skills, you will also be able to make use of a full range of benefits that we offer our tutors, such as a personalised reference, career mentor, accredited leadership award and access to free seminars/workshops.

This is a great opportunity to expand your professional network, enhance your CV and improve your employability - all whilst tutoring young people from low-income backgrounds! Reasonable travel costs will be covered by Team Up.

What We're Looking For:

  • Enthusiasm and strong grades in the subject you wish to tutor in.
  • Committed, patient and organised individuals who are keen to develop new skills.
  • Individuals who are passionate about social mobility and helping to reduce the education attainment gap.
  • Good interpersonal skills when dealing with pupils.

Time commitment

Volunteers attend one tuition session a week (60-90 minutes), over one school term (10 - 12 weeks). Each programme runs for a school term - Summer (Apr to Jul), Autumn (Sep to Dec) and Spring (Jan to Mar). The exact time and day of the week will depend on which programme you choose. We have a selection of programmes across London on different weekdays.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
