We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with or without previous experience in museums and galleries to help us provide an outstanding visitor experience and bring the National Portrait Gallery’s new building and collection to life.
We are committed to widening access to the sector to those in underrepresented groups and actively encourage applicants from ethnic minority backgrounds and people with disabilities to volunteer with us.
- Welcoming visitors to the National Portrait Gallery and contributing towards creating a friendly and accessible environment for all visitors, including school groups, families and young people.
- Providing guidance and insight to visitors for collections journeys.
- Acting as an information point to help visitors with wayfinding and orientation.
- Supporting the Visitor Experience talks and tours programme.
Time commitment
Before applying, we ask that you are available to attend an induction session in June and can commit to a minimum of 6 sessions in the first 6 months.
