Description

Be part of Engineering history and volunteer as a Festival Ambassador at UCL’s amazing Festival of Engineering!

Are you ready to embark on an electrifying journey celebrating 150 years of engineering education at UCL? This is your chance to be a part of something truly extraordinary and make a difference! As a Festival Ambassador, you'll be at the forefront of igniting passion and curiosity among school pupils. Picture yourself guiding them through hands-on activities, interactive exhibits, and mind-blowing demonstrations, all designed to showcase the wonders of engineering. You could light up their imagination, inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.

It's not all work and no play! Get ready for a festival atmosphere filled with excitement, laughter, and unforgettable moments. From thrilling challenges to fascinating workshops, there's never a dull moment at the Festival of Engineering. Plus, you'll have the chance to connect with like-minded peers, industry professionals, and renowned experts in the field.

There are two different Festival Ambassador roles available, with training available, and each will give you the opportunity to develop a wide range of valuable skills, while being part of something historic, fun, and world-changing!

1. Engagement Ambassador

Not everyone will engage with the Festival in the same way – everyone learns differently and some school pupils will feel shy or overwhelmed. Be there to make sure everyone gets the most out of their visit! This role will be based in the Cloisters in the Wilkins Building on Bloomsbury campus and you’ll be essential to making sure our young visitors feel confident and able to take part, ask questions, and have the best experience.

2. Campus Ambassador

The Festival could be the first time visiting UCL for many people; perhaps the first time on a university campus, period. We want to really inspire young minds and there’s nothing worse than getting lost or feeling unwelcome. Be there to help UCL shine for everyone who comes to campus and create the best environment for fun learning!

Duties
  • You'll take on a leadership role in guiding and mentoring school pupils, helping them navigate through various activities and exhibits. This experience will enhance your ability to lead and inspire others effectively.
  • You'll interact with diverse groups of people, including students, teachers, and industry professionals. This will improve your verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborating with fellow Ambassadors and festival organisers, you'll work together as a team to ensure the smooth operation of activities and events. This teamwork will strengthen your ability to cooperate, delegate tasks, and achieve common goals.
  • The dynamic nature of the festival environment means you'll need to adapt quickly to changing situations and unexpected challenges. This adaptability will be invaluable in both personal and professional settings, enabling you to thrive in diverse circumstances.
  • Balancing your responsibilities as a Student Ambassador with your other commitments will sharpen your time management skills. You'll learn to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and effectively manage your workload.
  • Interacting with industry professionals, experts, and fellow enthusiasts at the festival will provide valuable networking opportunities. Building relationships with individuals in the field of engineering can open doors to future collaborations, internships, and career opportunities.

Time commitment

The Festival of Engineering will take place from 15-20 July 2024.
