Reedbed Restoration - 1st of December
Come help us dig new channels to re-wet an area of land and help our reedbed grow. You’ll build earth banks to create new habitat, and learn the basics of reedbed management and the wildlife that lives there. This one is super important and we need as many people as we can get!
Reedbeds are like a natural water treatment plant for the river. They trap dirt and soak up pollutants, they add oxygen to the water, which helps fish and other wildlife. Their roots also hold the riverbanks together, and they help slow down and store water, which reduces flooding. On top of that, they give shelter and food to kingfishers, herons, water voles, otters and hundreds of invertebrate species.
It matters for us too. Bringing the reedbed back is a chance to reclaim our river and make it a healthier place for wildlife and for people. Every pair of hands makes a real difference!
